Coastal Family Health Center
Biloxi, Mississippi
This program operates a mobile health van to expand access to healthcare and social services for people who are economically poor and underserved and living in low-income communities along Mississippi's gulf coast. The program provides transportation to doctor appointments and pharmacies so patients can be compliant with referral appointments and obtain prescription medications. This program's primary focus is the education of families. Adult
services include computer literacy and parenting/child development
education. Youth benefit from after-school tutoring and a comprehensive
recreational program. Seniors participate in daily activities
designed to alleviate loneliness and foster companionship. Services
are provided at multiple sites in the Mississippi Delta.

St. Alphonsus School was founded in 1850 and staffed by lay persons until 1869 when the Sisters of Mercy arrived in New Orleans. Today, St. Alphonsus Early Childhood Center is a preschool for three- and four-year olds providing developmentally appropriate early learning for children from low-income families living in the surrounding neighborhood. The program focuses on the development of the whole child; spiritual, physical, cognitive, social and emotional and is state accredited.

Mercy Endeavors Senior Center
New Orleans, Louisiana
Mercy Endeavors Senior Center provides socialization, recreation,
health programs, spiritual programs, retreats, crafts, computer classes
and various other activities to approximately 90 seniors. The
program stresses independence and strives to keep older adults active
and out of nursing homes. The on-site parish nurse makes referrals,
translates medications and medical instructions, as well as encourages
weight loss and healthy diets.

Housing and Human Development HomeWorks!
Gulfport, Mississippi
HomeWorks! assists very low- to- moderate income families in purchasing
homes of their own. Individual credit and budget counseling
are provided to remove obstacles in obtaining mortgage loans.
A Revolving Loan Fund is available for assisting with mortgage downpayments. Families
become members of the Home Buyer's Education Club at their first class
and continue in post-purchase classes for five years thereafter.
